Video Review: The Calling

Ho hum, just another day in the ‘Ville where the heat index is 110 degrees. It’s actually slightly hotter here than in my home state of Florida, which is 860 miles to the south. This makes for some stickiness.

See linked below another solid rowing documentary called The Calling. Props to Sculler’s Deck for originally posting this. The Calling offers a historical and contemporary perspective on the oldest collegiate competition in the country, the Harvard-Yale Boat Race. This is great for folks who are interested in the origins of our sport and how it’s evolved over the last 150 years. Of particular interest are interviews with Dave Vogel, John Pescatore, Fritz Hagerman, and Harry Parker. Not to be missed.

The video is chunked up into 7 parts, with a total running time of under 30′. The Calling was written and directed by Justin Zimmerman, a filmmaker and assistant professor at Western State College. Check out his Bricker Down Productions site.

Also, why is the very last line in the video, from Hagerman, so lame?? Seems to have zero connection to the rest of the video.

“It’s fun. Boathouse parties are fun. I’ve been to a lot of them.”
