“I think the thing I can say about NCAAs is the unbelievable quality of the crews. We had done really well at South/Central Regionals–maybe too well to repeat with 3 hard races in 24 hours–and were really going for the team title. Things were looking really good with the V4 and 2V8 winning their heats and the V8 racing Brown tight in the heat and then USC and Ohio State in the semi. The V4 did really well to win the final but the 2V8 ran into a great race by Minnesota and also Cal and Brown in the final. We underperformed a bit and it cost us because the field was so good that it made the difference. In the V8, we pushed hard early to be in the race and just didn’t have the juice to keep it up; hence my comment about the regionals. So, Brown did a great job and was able to get us in the 2V8 and V8 and win the championship. Yale had a great race in the V8 to win and Ohio State was very impressive in the last half to get second.”
